How the Chase UK referral program works

Chase UK credits 50 pounds to each side's rewards balance. The referrer gets five single-use codes and no more. If a referee links a code and then fails to qualify within 30 days, that code is gone: it cannot be reused, and Chase will not issue a replacement.

01The terms

What the program pays

Referrer gets
GBP 50 credited to the rewards balance
Referred friend gets
GBP 50 credited to their rewards balance
Qualification
The referrer generates codes in the rewards section of the Chase app and may only send them to people they know. The referee must join Chase, then submit the code in the app to link and activate the offer, and meet all conditions within 30 days of opening their first Chase account. JPMorgan Group staff may not refer other staff or clients of the group.
Cap
Up to five referral codes, each single use, one referee per code. A code consumed by a referral that then fails cannot be reused or replaced
Expiry
The referee has 30 days from opening their first Chase account. The referrer must not close their last Chase account or deactivate rewards before the award is paid.
02The mechanic

What makes this program different

Making referral capacity finite and destructible. Five codes, one referee each, and a code spent on someone who does not follow through is simply lost. Most programmes cap how much you can earn; this one caps how many attempts you get, which changes who a referrer chooses to approach.

03The design

Why it works

A finite number of codes makes the referrer select carefully, which raises the quality of who is approached without any policing.

Burning the code on a failed referral removes the incentive to spray links at people unlikely to convert.

Requiring the referee to submit the code inside the app after joining creates an explicit, auditable link between two accounts.

Blocking the referrer from closing their account before payout stops a leaver collecting on the way out.

04The takeaway

What to copy

  • Consider capping attempts rather than earnings, where you care more about who gets approached than how many.
  • Decide what happens to a code consumed by a referral that fails, and say so before someone spends theirs.
  • Exclude your own staff and their business contacts explicitly if the reward is meaningful.
What we could not verify
  • Chase notifies customers whether they are eligible to refer, so the programme is not open to everyone by default. The referee-side conditions, including the deposit required within the 30 days, sit in a separate referee terms document that was not read on the date verified, so they are not detailed here.
05Questions

Chase UK referrals, answered

How many people can you refer to Chase UK?

Up to five. Each referral code is single use and links to one referee only, and Chase notifies you whether you are eligible to refer at all.

What happens if a Chase referral does not complete?

The code is lost. If a referee links your code and then fails to meet the conditions within 30 days, you cannot reuse that code and Chase will not generate a replacement.

Can you close your Chase account before the reward arrives?

No. The terms require you not to close your last Chase account or deactivate rewards until the referral award has been paid.
