How the Peloton referral program works
Peloton gives the referrer one free month of membership and the referred friend between $150 and $600 off equipment, depending on the product. The reward used to be a $100 apparel gift card, and the annual cap was reduced from six referrals to four on 1 January 2026.
What the program pays
What makes this program different
An asymmetric reward that costs Peloton almost nothing on one side. A free membership month is close to zero marginal cost, while the referee discount scales with the hardware margin available — so the expensive half of the reward only fires when a high-value sale closes.
Why it works
Rewarding the referrer in service months rather than cash keeps acquisition cost near zero on that side.
Scaling the referee discount to the product protects margin across a wide price range.
Cutting the cap from six to four is a visible lever for tuning programme spend without changing the headline offer.
What to copy
- If you sell a subscription alongside hardware, pay the advocate in subscription time. It is the cheapest currency you have.
- Scale the referee incentive to the margin of what they actually buy.
- The cap changed on 1 January 2026 and the referrer reward changed from a gift card to a membership month. Older write-ups describe both incorrectly.
