How the Traveloka referral program works

Traveloka pays 2,000 Traveloka Points, worth about S$20, for each successful referral, and the page says there is no limit on how many you can make. The terms say otherwise: the whole programme is capped at 350 successful referrals per month in Singapore and just 50 in Australia, shared across every user.

02The mechanic

What makes this program different

A shared monthly ceiling. The individual user has no cap, which is what the marketing says — but the programme as a whole stops paying once the month's quota is filled. It is a hard budget control disguised as an uncapped offer.

03The design

Why it works

A programme-wide cap gives finance an exact monthly ceiling that per-user caps can never guarantee.

Tiering the referee discount by basket size protects margin on small bookings while still rewarding large ones.

Clawing back the reward on cancellation closes the most obvious abuse route in travel.

04The takeaway

What to copy

  • If you need a hard budget ceiling, cap the programme rather than the person. It is the only cap that actually bounds spend.
  • But say so clearly. An 'unlimited' headline over a shared 50-a-month quota is the kind of gap that damages trust when advocates discover it.
  • Reverse the reward when the qualifying transaction reverses.
What we could not verify
  • Traveloka has withdrawn this programme across Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia and the Philippines — those URLs now return HTTP 410 Gone. A Malaysian editorial page quoting RM90 is still live but expired on 30 September 2025.
