Referral Tracker

The referral tracking spreadsheet, minus the spreadsheet

Log referrals as they happen; conversion rate and outstanding reward liability compute themselves. Data stays in your browser — nothing is uploaded anywhere — and exports to CSV whenever you outgrow it.

Everything here lives in this browser's local storage — close the tab and come back, it's still here; nothing is sent to us or anyone. The honest limits: one browser, one person, no attribution. When referrals need to survive a team, per-customer links and automatic tracking are the upgrade — that's what referral tracking software exists for.

What should a referral tracking spreadsheet contain?

Five columns cover a manual program: who referred, who they sent, the date, a status that follows the funnel (invited → signed up → converted → reward paid), and the reward value. The tracker above is exactly that spreadsheet with the formulas pre-built — every downloadable template we found makes you write them yourself.

The status column is the one people get wrong. 'Converted' and 'reward paid' must be separate states, because the gap between them is money you owe — and a tracker that can't show what's owed is a list, not a ledger.

Which metrics are worth computing from it?

Three, and the tool computes them live: conversion rate (referrals that became customers — the quality signal), outstanding reward liability (earned but unpaid — the money you owe), and your top advocates by converted referrals — the shortlist for a proper thank-you, which is where the next referrals come from.

When does manual tracking stop working?

At the point attribution starts depending on memory: someone signs up without saying who sent them, two people claim the same referral, or the sheet's owner goes on holiday. Manual tracking is honest bookkeeping for a handful of referrals a month; past that, per-customer links that attribute automatically stop the leaks.

How link- and code-based attribution actually works — clicks, identifiers, conflict rules — is covered on the referral tracking reference page below. This tool is the bridge until you need it.

Frequently asked

Is this referral tracking tool free?

Yes — free, no signup. Rows live in your own browser's local storage and export to CSV whenever you want them elsewhere; nothing is uploaded to us.

Can my team use this tracker together?

Honestly, no — it's single-browser by design, which is the same limit as a private spreadsheet. When several people need the same live view, that's the moment for shared tracking software rather than a bigger spreadsheet.

What is outstanding reward liability?

The total value of rewards your advocates have earned that you haven't paid yet — every row marked converted but not yet reward-paid. It's the number manual programs most often lose track of, and unpaid rewards are how advocate trust dies.

Tracking referrals by hand has a natural ceiling

ReferralFlo gives every customer a link, attributes signups automatically, and computes these numbers across your whole program — no spreadsheet, no honour system.
