How the Oddbox referral program works
Oddbox pays 10 pounds to each side, capped at five rewards, so 50 pounds in total. The code cannot be shared until payment has been taken for the referrer's own first box. The help page states both that the code may be shared five times and that it may be shared without limit.

What makes this program different
Gating the code behind the referrer's own first payment. A new Oddbox customer cannot refer anyone until their own box has been paid for, so nobody can sign up purely to generate codes. The advocate has to become a customer first, in the literal sense of having paid.
Why it works
Requiring payment before a code exists removes the account created solely to mint referral links.
Paying the referrer only when the friend's payment is taken means the credit follows money that has actually moved.
Voiding the discount if the subscription is cancelled before the first order closes the sign-up-and-cancel route.
A five-reward ceiling keeps a subscription box's acquisition cost per advocate bounded and knowable.
What to copy
- Make the advocate pay once before their code works. It is the cheapest anti-abuse control available.
- Settle the credit on the friend's payment, not their sign-up.
- Check your own help page for the cap. Stating a limit twice in different words is how customers end up believing the stricter one.
- Oddbox's help page states in one place that a code may be shared up to five times and in another that it may be shared an unlimited number of times, with the five-reward cap stated separately. The two sentences are not reconciled anywhere on the page. Oddbox also reserves the right to refuse any reward at any time and to vary any element of the offer without notice.
