How the SMARTY referral program works
SMARTY pays both sides more when the referred friend picks a bigger plan. On plans of 15 pounds a month or more, each side gets 20 pounds, taken as PayPal or a gift card of the referrer's choosing. Nothing is paid until the friend renews.

Pricing the referral by what the friend bought. The bigger the plan the friend chooses, the bigger the reward both sides receive. It aligns the advocate with revenue rather than headcount, and it means a referral that brings a low-value customer costs SMARTY proportionately less.
Why it works
Paying by plan value stops a programme spending the same acquiring a five-pound customer and a twenty-pound one.
Waiting for a renewal rather than a signup filters out the customer who tried one month and left.
Letting the recipient choose between PayPal and several gift cards makes one reward feel like four.
Matching both sides keeps the offer explainable in a sentence despite the tiering underneath.
What to copy
- Scale the reward to what the referred customer is worth, not to the fact that they exist.
- Settle on a renewal where your churn happens in month one or two.
- Offer a choice of reward. It costs the same and reads as more generous.
- Only the top tier is verified from SMARTY's own refer-a-friend page: plans of GBP 15 a month or more pay GBP 20 each side. Lower tiers exist and are described on the full terms and conditions, which could not be read on the date checked, so they are deliberately not stated here. The page describes payment both as after the first renewal and as renewing for month three, without reconciling the two.
