How the Starling Bank referral program works
Starling pays 25 pounds to the referrer and the referee, or another amount named in the referral message. The conditions that actually govern each promotion are not in these terms: they sit on the Refer a Friend screen. A referrer also has to be invited by Starling to take part.
What the program pays
What makes this program different
Randomised cohort trialling. Starling has not launched the new scheme to everyone; it selects customers at random to test it, a controlled rollout that produces a clean comparison group.
Why it works
Testing on a random subset gives a genuine control group, which an open launch never does.
Retiring a charity-partner scheme cleanly, with a dated replacement, avoids the limbo most brands leave their advocates in.
Limiting access controls cost exposure while the mechanics are still being tuned.
What to copy
- Roll a new referral programme out to a random cohort first. You cannot measure incrementality without one.
- When you retire a scheme, say so on the page and date the replacement. Silence is what makes every third-party write-up go stale.
- No reward amount is published for the new trial. Any figure circulating for Starling refers to the retired National Trust scheme.
Starling Bank referrals, answered
Does Starling Bank still have a referral programme?
Not an open one. The previous National Trust scheme has ended, and Starling's page states that from 5 March 2026 randomly selected customers will be invited to trial a new scheme.
How do I join the Starling referral trial?
You cannot join on request. Starling selects participants at random from its existing customer base.
Starling Bank is not a ReferralFlo customer and this page is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Starling Bank. All terms described here are taken from Starling Bank’s own published materials as at 8 September 2026 and may have changed since. Trade marks are the property of their respective owners.
